The Centre for Constitutional Studies of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (NEC/PUC-Rio) and the Constitutional Law Graduate Program of the Federal Fluminense University (PPGDC/UFF) are pleased to announce the I International Seminar “Democracy in the Communication Media”, to be held in September 10-11, 2015, in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.
National and international scholars will present and discuss the role media and new communication technologies could/should play for guaranteeing fundamental rights and fostering democracy.
The event will take place at PUC-Rio and UFF and will make use of communication technology to allow for long distance participation. Some scholars will present via videoconference and all presentations will be streamed live.
After the presentations, technical sessions will be held to deepen the discussion on the following related topics:
# Media Regulation in Brazil and in Comparative Law: Radio, Tv and Internet
# Supranational and Global Initiatives on Media Regulation
# Freedom of Expression on the Internet: Guarantees and Limits
# Democracy, Political Participation and Information Access: Empowerment and Media
# Cultural Production and Media Evolution
# Data Protection and the Right to be Forgotten

The works presented during the technical sessions will be published in e-book form and a printed book will be published with the contributions of the speakers and other invited scholars. For more informations, see the call for papers.
